Sharing the Journey…

Goodbye SMP!

April 17, 2008 · 10 Comments

Goodbye! As some of you know (or don’t know) I have had the amazing privilege of posting and participating on a blog called Simplemindedpreacher. I discovered this blog while feeling utterly disconnected and alone in ministry and in my movement, Calvary Chapel. I was 6 months or so into pastoring our church and it was a rude awakening on may levels. I began to see things that I had never seen while in the movement for 10+ years. I started worrying and looking for answers or others who may feel similar to me… Alone, confused, concerned and very disconnected from anyone else. Enter the SMP…

I began to Google things and questions about my movement. As I did, I found Chad’s site and read the Mission of SMP. My heart felt revived. It was such a gut level thing for me. It described what I was feeling. So I shot him an email and spilled my guts about how I was feeling (all the while I’m thinking, ‘this guy’s going to think I’m an idiot.’). Well maybe he did, but he offered me the opportunity to participate anyway. And for that I am unspeakably thankful. The help and healing that God has done through the conversation and connection on that blog has been beyond words. It was one of the best things that happened to me since I became a pastor.

So to all of you who particpated, who shared, who scolded, who reproved and corrected, who gave insight and wisdom or just stopped by to say hi, THANK YOU! I hope you stop by here and say hi from time to time as well.

Sean you were one of the first people there to reply to me respectably and I am glad you stepped out and wrote the articles you did. I’d like to add your blog to my blog roll if that is acceptable. I know I get out there a bit with some of my posts so I’ll ask first. Let me know faithandinches@gmail.com

Jim… The feeling is mutual. Thanks for sharing what you have. I loved it. You are more than welcome to include me. Thanks for the add to your blogroll. Can I throw you on mine?

Sean: We have never met. I too have a Calvary connection, have been saved in the tent, yet choosing not to affiliate for reasons I will keep to myself. SMP overwhelmingly was a blessing. I am disappointed in it’s departure, but I too know what it is like so have rocks thrown st me – it gets old fast. If you don’t mind, I would like to stop in from time to time and post?
    Grace and peace…

Hey Sean thank you for the kind words you are more than welcome to add mine if you like and any disclaimers you feel necessary ;)

Now to go link collecting before SMP is gone.

Sean – I haven’t been around the blogs much in a while, but I noticed today the developments. Just thought I’d say ‘hi’, and I’ll check in now and again.

Looks like you’re pursuing fresh vision and direction for your fellowship there in Charleston. I think that’s great. I’d love to hear how it’s going.

    Peace Brother,

    Todd

007, we agree on about nothing, but you are a true bro, example of what God wants us to be. Thanks for putting up with my bull in a china shop ways. God has changed my heart on some things at SMP, and you said some things there that sent me off into those long drawn out changes. The Lord used you, and continues to use you, and that flat out rocks for the best day when we stand before HIM.

Reuben… Thanx amigo! I appreciate the stop by and the encouraging words. No doubt God has used our conversations to change us both. Looking forward to standing before Him together.

    Hey Sean,
Glad to see this past Conference at St. Pete. So how do I apply for the “New SMP”?
